Teen Traffic Diversion Program:

Turning a Negative Experience into a Learning One.

About Us

The 10th Prosecutorial District has partnered with Criminal Justice Alternatives for the implementation of the Teen Traffic Diversion Program. Teen Traffic gives juveniles that have received certain Chapter 20 violations for the first time, a chance to keep their driving records clean as well as gives them the opportunity to improve their driving awareness through driving courses that come at no cost to them. Teen Traffic also focuses on and encourages good decision-making skills.

We are a free program designed for youths that have received a citation within Wake County. The program is voluntary, and all participants must admit responsibility for their citation in order to participate.

Eligibility

  • Must be 16, 17, or 18 and still in High School
  • Must be a first time violation
  • Citation must have been given within Wake County
  • Offense must be eligible
  • Citations involving accidents or DWI/DUI are not eligible for dismissal

Completion Requirements

  • 4-hour “Alive at 25” Defensive Driving In-Person Class
  • 4 hours of Community Service

I am interested, what is next?

If you are eligible to participate in the program, an intake appointment is scheduled where the participant and their guardian (if under 18) will have to be present. At this point participant will be admitted into the program.

What happens after I am admitted into the program?

You will have 90 days from date of admission to complete your requirements. Once your requirements are fulfilled, your eligible charges will be dismissed by the District Attorney.

What happens if I do not complete the requirements?

Your case with Teen Traffic Diversion Program will be closed unsuccessfully and your charges will remain your responsibility.

Is there a cost to participate in the program?

No, our program is free of charge.
